The Covid-19 crisis has suddenly brought to our attention the problems the world has been reluctant to discuss at a sluggish pace.
The lack of collaboration in supra-national structures, symbolic meetings and reports, the faint voice of some idealistic scientists, our failure in solving problems, our inability to be global citizens, the primitive reflexes we unconsciously exhibit behind intellectual conversations, and most importantly, neglecting our creativity and intelligence in creating something new and better...
While these might have provided us comfort in our micro world, the comfort of the general environment we are in has deteriorated in every aspect.
Do we want gold in a cage filled with filth?
Because, as I repeatedly say; we fail to realize we are breaking from within as we try to be good to ourselves...
Now, at this point, we find ourselves back in the debate between individual freedom and social order. Humans are beings who desire to be free and use their autonomy. However, their stature doesn't allow them to create a separate environment within the environment they live in. From this perspective, they are constantly in thoughts containing contradictions.
I think the situation is a matter of BALANCE. Just as the universe moves within a set of balances, life on Earth is also based on a balance. One's own life, health, and body are all in the form of a balanced system. The liberal view has emphasized the individual's freedom in every aspect, continually opening the way and spreading the urge for limitless individual gain. On the other hand, the more socially oriented view has seen people as a group and advocated for the control and maintenance of order under a superstructure. Throughout history, both economically and socially, these two main views have failed to find a balance. However, with Corona, this paradox has become even clearer. In other words, the virus is saying to us, "USE YOUR MINDS AND CREATE SOMETHING BETTER ALREADY."
At this point, one striking issue is that people unintentionally refer to elements of the national socialist philosophy when discussing the situation. While understandable due to the crisis, it is unacceptable from the perspective of our evolution. It would be more accurate to address this in a separate article.
Returning to the subject, how can we create something better?
Rather than discussing what the better is, I prefer to talk about how it can emerge. My thoughts on this are:
A global eco-political model should be developed. It doesn't need to be too detailed, but the adoption of principles in practice is essential. Country policies should also be developed in line with this. While the real sector, entrepreneurship, and productivity-based approaches stand out, key elements could include international trade, capital flows, global income distribution, the authority of supra-national organizations, and contributions to them. Also, IDEOLOGIES are not static; we should be able to evolve them as well.
There should be ETHICAL LEADERS who can lead different segments, not just one group. The need for ethical leadership was detailed in the ethics leadership article. In summary, we will need effective, proactive, and sustainability-providing ethical leaders to do better.
We should move away from perceiving the ENVIRONMENT as a sector and understand that the situation we are in is unavoidable. Unfortunately, there is currently no technology that allows us to create another living space in space.
We should EARN VALUE by creating value. Mutual benefit, long-term productivity increase, and sustainability should shape our way of life. Alongside this, curiosity, research, and the cultivation of generations who learn by understanding and progressing should be prioritized.
In addition, the AWARENESS level of humanity should be increased. We should be able to break free from memorized conditioned reflexes and subconscious impulses, while increasing our awareness of global citizenship, ethical understanding, empathy, and contributing to the world.
Amidst the reflex of looking inward that we are experiencing these days, it will be more beneficial to think about the above elements without forgetting them. Because being able to do better for balance will begin with filling in the question of what will not be the same after Corona!!
